We're the husband-and-wife team behind Kim & Garrett Make It.
Today we help makers create better products, understand their equipment, and build businesses around what they make.
But this all started long before we bought our first laser.
Our backgrounds looked pretty different before Kim & Garrett Make It.
Kim had been scrapbooking and crafting for almost 20 years. She taught scrapbooking, loved helping other people create, and always dreamed of owning a craft store.
Professionally, she spent years managing enterprise financial systems, learning business processes, organization, finances, and how complicated systems work behind the scenes.
Garrett's original dream was to become a stuntman.
When that didn't exactly scream “stable career,” he considered becoming an art teacher. He earned a degree in graphic design and has been using Adobe software since 1994.
After the third kid came along, he realized graphic designers weren't exactly getting rich, so he went back to college for programming and eventually built a career in systems engineering.
When we eventually discovered laser crafting, all of those seemingly unrelated pieces started coming together.
Crafting. Graphic design. Technology. Systems. Teaching. Problem solving. Business.
